ORDER OF ST BENEDICT   OSB

Broad Marston (will be Mucknell Abbey from later in 2010)

After sixty years at Burford Priory, the community of Benedictine nuns and monks are ‘in transit’ to a new monastery near Worcester.  In 2008, they sold Burford Priory and bought a derelict farm.  As that is being transformed into their new monastery, they are renting Broad Marston Manor, parts of which were built by the Cistercians in the thirteenth century.  The new monastery should be ready during the autumn of 2010, and will be a model of ‘sustainable ‘ design.

During this period of transition, the Community is unable to exercise its normal ministry of hospitality, and is using this sabbatical time as a period of retreat and an opportunity to review its way of life in the hope that it can be ‘fit for service’ in the world of the twenty-first century.

The Community hopes to continue to provide a place of ecumenical encounter and reconciliation, enjoying, as it does, links with Baptist, Lutheran, Orthodox and Roman Catholic communities.  Its ecumenism has broadened to include dialogue with people of other faiths and those who are seeking a spiritual way, either within or outside an established religious tradition.
