The COMPANIONS OF ST LUKE  - OSB

The Companions of St Luke is a Benedictine community founded on the Rule of St Benedict incorporating both traditional and contemporary aspects of Religious life.  The Companions of St Luke is a community who honours the rich tradition and wisdom that has been passed down to us through the ages, yet knows that if Religious life is to prosper into the 21st century that it must be open to the movement of the Holy Spirit and the windows of opportunity that it might bring.  The Companions are a hybrid reflecting the best of what ‘Orders and Christian communities’ offer.

The Companions of St Luke is about making choices.  Members are given choices of living at the Abbey or living their life in mission in the larger community.  Members may choose to follow the traditional model of living as a single person or in a married state, both requiring a chaste life.  The Community is a blend of male and female.

Vowed members take vows of: obedience, conversion of life, and stability; Oblates take corresponding promises of the same.

Michael-John Austin was consecrated Abbot at Conception Abbey (Roman), Missouri, in 2004.  Since then, the Abbot Primate of the Roman Catholic Church has invited Michael-John to participate in the gathering of the Abbots of the Americas, representing Anglican tradition.  Michael-John is also a member of the National Association of Episcopal Christian Communities.
