Third Order Praying Presence during the Lambeth Conference
Here is the daily programme for our Praying Presence in Greyfriars
Chapel Canterbury during the Lambeth Conference 16 July-4 August.
Monday to Saturday.
- 9.00 a.m. Morning Prayer & Community Obedience
- 10-11 a.m. Bible Study: Signs on the Way in St.John’s Gospel
- 12 noon Eucharist with homily (except on Sundays and at 12:30pm on Wednesdays)
- 2-3 p.m. Prayer
- 5.30 p.m. Evening Prayer
On Fridays
there will be Stations of the Cross in the afternoon.
On Sunday 27 July at 2.30 p.m. at Greyfriars there will be a gathering
of Franciscan bishops hosted by the SSF Bishop Protector General,
George Connor.
It is hoped that
Areas and Local Groups will make up a party to go to Canterbury for the
day. For those going by car or in a hired mini-bus there are three Park
& Ride places and there are coach parks. Both Canterbury railway stations are within walking distance of Greyfriars.
Dorothy Brooker, our Minister General, will be over here from New
Zealand and has written this Pastoral Letter. Dick Bird, our Minister Provincial, will be staying just outside Canterbury for the whole Conference time.
We have heard from Tertiaries from the USA who will be there for part
of the time and people from all over the United Kingdom have said
they will be there. We expect visitors from other Provinces too. Our
whole idea is to be in Canterbury to pray for God‟s blessing on the
Anglican Communion, on the Lambeth Conference, on Rowan Williams our
Archbishop and all the participating bishops and their spouses.
There will be a large hospitality tent in the garden of the Masters
Lodge, The John Adam Tent, in which refreshments will always be
available and where we can meet each other.
John Morrison is the local Tertiary coordinating all the immediate
arrangements but he is not able to find accommodation. He would welcome
offers of practical help. His email address is: jpm_490540@hotmail.com.
